SharperLending Security Enhancements Scheduled for June 30th, 2018
TLSv1.0 Access No Longer Supported PLUS Help with Contacting Vendors
We are continuing to reach out to as many interface vendors as possible about the upcoming TLS (Transport Layer Security) transition that all our systems will undergo at the end of the 2nd quarter (June 30th) 2018. On this date and going forward, the following SharperLending systems will no longer support TLSv1.0:
  • XpertOnline credit reporting system
  • Appraisal Firewall real estate appraisal platform
  • TVP and TRV Provider tax verification systems
  • ReadyQual prequalification platform
  • EPN bundled services platform
Starting June 30th, these systems will only support TLSv1.1 or higher, with TLSv1.2 being the most secure version of TLS to connect to us with.  We will continue to support TLS 1.1 until it is retired, but the more interface vendors that connect to us with TLSv1.2, the more secure your data, as TLSv1.2 is the current TLS encryption standard.  We are making this transition to ensure we have the highest level of security around data and systems.

What Interface Vendors Need to do
  • Vendors need to update their encryption protocols to be TLS 1.1 or greater. We recommend all vendors use TLS 1.2 as this is the current TLS encryption standard and provides better system and data security. 
“Dry-Run” Switches Planned to Gauge Client, Vendor Impact
We have reached out to all known vendors that we have contact with to bring attention to this security enhancement. However, some of you and your clients have custom vendors that interface to our systems that we don’t have regular contact with.

Because of this, we will be doing “dry-run” switches to temporarily disable support of TLSv1.0 to gauge impact on your clients, and to identify as many vendors as possible that interface to us.  We will then re-enable TLSv1.0 support after a specified time.  See the information below for scheduled “dry-run” dates and times.
  • Tuesday, June 12th, 2018 from 10:00am to 11:00am Pacific (1 hour) – no TLSv1.0 support
  • Thursday, June 14th, from 10:00am to 2:00pm Pacific (4 hours) – no TLSv1.0 support
Older Versions of Windows, Internet Explorer Not Supported with TLSv1.1 and Higher
You and your clients may experience connectivity issues during our scheduled “dry-run” switches if you are running older versions of Windows, or older versions of Internet Explorer.  When we disable TLSv1.0, some SharperLending systems may be unavailable for users running:
  • Any version of Windows below Windows 7 (note that Windows v7 is supported)
  • Any version of Internet Explorer below v11 (note that IE v11 is supported)

We need your Help Contacting Interface Vendors
If any of your clients use vendors that are accessing our systems via TLSv1.0, your clients will likely be impacted and will contact you, inquiring about a system issue with their interface. It will serve your clients and us if you could gather the following vendor information from your client:
  • Name of vendor/interface they are using
  • Contact name at the vendor’s office
  • Vendor contact phone number
  • Vendor contact email address
